On the Road to Paradiso is born from movement itself, from the experience of travel beyond the tourist image, moving toward a more intimate perception. Painted in oil on paper and conceived almost as large-scale emotional postcards, the works bring together autobiographical scenes, observed architectures, suspended interiors, and characters that seem to exist in an ambiguous space between memory and fiction.

The origin of this series lies in several trips Azucena González made to Ibiza and, especially, in a drive towards Sant Josep de sa Talaia after disembarking from a night ferry. During that stay, while being hosted in several hotels by Concept Hotel Group, González gradually constructed a visual imaginary shaped by Mediterranean aesthetics, the retro design of the hotels, the theatricality of certain spaces, and a particular understanding of leisure as a form of staging.

Far from documenting specific places, the paintings transform lived experience into atmosphere-filled images. Cars, palm trees, swimming pools, neon lights, animals, and female figures appear as recurring symbols of a personal “Dolce Ibiza”: an island traversed by light, artifice, desire, and nostalgia.

Within these works coexist references to pop imagery, cinema, and a certain holiday iconography alongside a deeply painterly gaze, where saturated color and fragmented compositions turn each scene into an intensified memory. More than representing Ibiza itself, the exhibition proposes an emotional drift through those minimal moments that ultimately come to define a journey.
